Passing of Margaret Warren (nee Spencer)

Published Tue 25 Jan 2022

The Club wishes to offer its condolences to the family of Margaret Warren (nee Spencer), who passed away on 1 January 2022 aged 91.

The Spencer’s were a significant part of the South Perth hockey family.  Margaret was Club Captain and in 1958 and 1959 President of the South Perth Womens Hockey Club (SPWHC), and was heavily involved in the establishment of SPWHC.  Her mother, Naomi Spencer, was SPWHC’s first Life Member in 1955, which was also the year Margaret played in a Premiership.

Margaret’s son David said that his mum “loved her hockey days and the friendships she made at the Club”, and other WASPS Life Members have consistently noted that Margaret was very loyal to the Club, always generous with her time, and tended to be the spokeswoman for the founding members; possibly because her parents had been so heavily involved.

Margaret thoroughly enjoyed attending the Anniversary dinners held by SPWHC.

The Club offers its deepest sympathies to Margaret's family.
